About Ian

Ian grew up moving between 6 different US states before graduating high school and putting down roots in central Florida where he focused on building open-source online learning tools at the University.

Staring at the Watzmann Mountain over the village of Berchtesgaden on his first European trip awoke a longing to pull up the deepening roots in Florida and seek out something new. Perhaps a minor over-correction, Ian and his wife quit their jobs, sold their home, carefully coaxed their 3 cats into backpack carriers and moved to Southern Sweden to start a new Nordic adventure chasing a dream job working on amazing super cars.

Q&A

What is your favorite country or travel experience?

My favorite things are often the smallest moments. My wife acting as a rally co-driver as we drove the twisty roads of Northern Ireland, riding the city bus with loud chanting fans to a Hockey game in Ängelholm Sweden, making pasta with my family around Lake Como in Italy, and watching our German host grandmother get so excited for us to experience a Krampus parade for the first time. The sights are there for everyone, the moments are very specially yours.

Do you have a favorite travel hack that you've done?

I often get bogged down and anxious about what can go wrong. What did I forget? What do I not I know that I don't know? That's useful when I'm planning a trip. But when it's time to hit the road, it can be too much to deal with. In those situations, I simply imagine myself to be the happy expert traveler I wish I was. It's usually very effective.
