Is the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card Right For You?

You’ve been told by several people that you should have a Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card in your wallet. First, it was Samuel L. Jackson. Then Jennifer Garner.

And now us.

But come on — with that list, at least one of us has to know what we’re talking about.

And right now? The Venture X is offering us something very special: Earn 75,000 bonus miles when you spend $4,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening, equal to $750 in travel.

With Capital One Rewards, you can book travel or cover travel expenses from the past 90 days at a rate of one cent per mile. This means the welcome offer for this card can cover up to $750 in travel, even up to 90 days after your trip!

Needless to say, if you plan on traveling, then the $395 annual fee shouldn't scare you.

Plus, Capital One Miles transfer to various airline programs at a 1:1 ratio to unlock rewards worth far more than one cent per mile, which we love around here. So, let’s get right to it.

Pros and Cons

Let’s get into it, shall we?

Pros:

Cons:

  • $395 annual fee 🙃

Why The Capital One Venture X is Best for Premium Travel Perks

You can pay for literally ANY type of travel with Capital One Miles.

What I mean is — this card gives you the ability to cover any travel purchase using your miles (which is something none of the other cards can say).

But if I’m paying $395 a year, is the card still worth it? We would say…

“Abso-freaking-lutely.”

  1. Each year you keep the card, you'll receive 10,000 anniversary miles, valued at around $100.
  2. Annually, you'll also get a $300 travel credit for use in Capital One’s travel booking site
  3. Every four years, you'll get up to a $120 statement credit for TSA PreCheck®, covering the renewal cost.

Ok, I’m no math wiz, but I’m pretty sure $400 is greater than $395. To put it simply, you’d be making money with the Venture X (girl math!).

You’re also getting complimentary Priority PassTM , so if you’ve got a big family, the Venture X really is a no-brainer.

The Perfect Pair

If you’ve been a faithful Daily Drop fan, then you’ve heard us mention “keeper cards” once or twice.

Well, today, we’re looking at two: The Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card and the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card.

Why should you care about this combo? While I could probably write you a dissertation on this subject, I’ll save us both the time and give you the bullets:

  • Access to two different travel currencies
  • Two different sets of transfer partners
  • Different earning rates for both everyday and travel spending
  • Tons of super-duper travel perks

Bottom Line

The fact of the matter is this.

You need the Venture X if you’re going to play the miles and points game. The fact that you can use it to pay for anything with points is just bonkers.

Trust us on this one. You’ll be thanking us from a Priority PassTM lounge.
